The Book Club - started in 1959 - has continued to meet regularly over the years. Numbers have varied but the enthusiasm of
a small core of members (three of whom have been in the club for over 20 years), ensured me that the meetings were lively and informative. Members take it in turn to present a book and
lead the discussion.
In 1992 it was decided to meet in the afternoons rather than the evenings - a decision that met the approval of most of the members who were
in the older age group. Until 1997, it had also been the custom for the Book Club members to meet those in the Forty Group for a summer meeting, an occasion when a literary subject
would be discussed supplemented by wine and a delicious buffet supper.
There are now fifteen members with an average of ten to twelve at each meeting. A refreshing cup of tea or coffee is provided for all those who make it up the
stairs to the Club Flat.
